Pet Friendly/Dog Friendly

Pet-Friendly

Lots of people come back year after year because they find it such a lovely place to come to with their dogs. There are lots of fantastic walks to do straight from the house and many more further afield. Many hotels, tea rooms and visitor attractions are pet-friendly and will try to welcome you and your pet.

The picturesque seaside resort town of Oban is a haven for holidaymakers and their pets. Nestled in Scotland’s Firth of Lorn, the town itself is well protected from the elements, sited as it is within a perfect horseshoe bay, and it offers a wealth of country walks and stunning scenery, ideal for a pet-friendly break.

Walks

As the ‘Gateway to the Highlands’, there's an abundance of hills and mountains around Argyll’s Oban for you and your pet to tire yourselves walking up and down.

Another excellent option for dog walking is the beautiful and windswept beach at Ganavan sands, just a few miles from Oban itself. A lengthy coastal walk runs alongside the beach providing a beautiful, leisurely path along which to walk.

Ardmaddy Castle Gardens happily allows pets as long as they are kept on a lead. Discover the stunning walled garden and water garden, while beyond the grounds ancient woodland provides extensive walking, ideal for dogs.

Pet-Friendly Pubs and Eateries

Once you and your pet have explored all that Oban’s beautiful coastal surroundings have to offer, what better way to relax and replenish yourselves than with a decent meal at an establishment that welcomes four-legged friends? Most places will happily keep a water bowl out for dogs, while a few of the following listed here are especially recommended for pet-friendliness.

Aulay’s Bar, 8 Airds Crescent. A fabulous selection of ales and lagers on tap along with a wide choice of Scottish malts makes this friendly local bar a firm favourite with both holidaymakers and local residents. The bar menu favours traditional Scottish fare at affordable prices, while the pub also offers board games, darts and a sports screen.

Abbie’s Café, 9 Argyll Street. A small café that’s big on charm, run by a husband and wife team and open all day. Tuck into a hearty cooked breakfast or enjoy toasties, jacket potatoes and burgers at lunchtime alongside tasty, thick milkshakes. A good old-fashioned cup of tea is of course always on the menu, along with a friendly reception for pets and their owners.

The Barn, Kilbride, Lerag’s Den. Local musicians are a draw at this popular, warm, friendly pub set in a peaceful spot just outside of Oban proper. The food menu is traditional and well-prepared, while the bar stocks an excellent range of beers and ales. Being both pet and child-friendly means this lovely pub is open to the whole family.
